to All Ontario Dance Families:

The HDAO has been continually monitoring the CoVid-19 pandemic and associated

recommendations and mandates from all levels of government and public health agencies to

determine the best course of action regarding the 2020 Ontario Closed Championship, scheduled

to be held on June 6.

I deeply regret to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ontario Closed

Championship for 2020. I know that this decision will be deeply disappointing to many of you, as

it is to me and the rest of the HDAO Executive. Please know that we did not make it lightly and

made it with the health and safety of our dancers, volunteers and the Highland Dance community

at the forefront. Refunds will be issued for all entries made to date.

We continue to be in touch with all of our Games and hope to be able to get you dancing this

summer. We hope everyone remains healthy and safe during this uncertain time.

Andrea McReynolds

President, HDAO

The ScotDance Canada Championship Series is returning to Ontario in 2021! The Ottawa host committee is already working hard planning and fundraising, and is happy to announce that the Ontario Highland Dance Calendar will once again be available in 2020. The calendar will showcase dancers & studios from across the province, and will also include a listing of all our competitions. The committee is requesting photo submissions. Some general guidelines include:

  1.     Showcasing lots of dancers in the same photograph

 2.     High-res photos are required. Cell phone quality typically works, but if it is blurry when you open it on your computer it will also be blurry in print

 3.     Photos can be in highland, aboyne or choreography outfits. Have fun with it!

The deadline to submit images for the 2020 Ontario Highland Dance Calendar is October 4th. Have a look through your pictures from the last year and talk with your teacher to make sure your studio is represented. Calendars will be sold across the province for $20 – stay tuned for info on how to order!

 Please send submissions to

ScotDance Canada (“SDC”) has implemented changes to its Risk Management Policy. It now requires all volunteers, including marshals/line up volunteers, at competitions and Games to sign a Child Abuse Prevention Program Acknowledgement. If you are willing to help line up at our competitions and Games, please read the following document and sign the final page. We recommend that you keep your signed Acknowledgement in your dance bag so you will have it available at all competitions (not just HDAO competitions and Games). We will also have a hard copy and Acknowledgement page for review and signing at all of our events. Thanks in advance to all of you who volunteer and help our competitions run smoothly!
